On September 9, Metallica played night two of their “No Repeat Weekend” at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona after a week’s delay. the original show had been postponed because James Hetfield, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of Metallica, had gotten COVID-19. He’s alright though, and the show was definitely worth the wait.
Metallica and their fellow bands played an awesome show for the capacity crowd. Suicidal Tendencies (ST) was the first to play on the evening, and their performance was great!! Mike Muir, lead vocalist of Suicidal Tendencies, did an amazing job, and so did the rest of the members. In the Mid 90’s Robert Trujillo, now bassist of Metallica, was the bassist in ST. He hadn’t played with ST in a long while, so ST surprised everyone by bringing him up on stage to play with them.
Robert Trujillo’s son, Tye Trujillo, also a bassist, had played with ST that night, and shared the stage with his father for the first time, truly a legendary moment for everyone. After ST, Five Finger Death Punch played, and after their performance it was finally Metallica’s turn to rock the house.
Metallica opened with “Whiplash” , one of their best songs ever, from their debut album “Kill Em’ All”. They continued with a lot of great songs, including popular hits “Master of Puppets”, “Enter Sandman”, and “One”. Truly an amazing night.
One funny moment was when Kirk Hammett, lead guitarist of Metallica, and Robert Trujillo performed a short song that they had made before the show. The song was called “Miller Life” and Robert Trujillo said, “This song is called Miller Life. Why? Well, me and Kirk decided to call it that because Kirk has a poster in his room that just said ‘Miller Life’ and we decided that the name fits the vibe of the song!” It was a good little segment of the show where Kirk and Rob just played together.
Another amazing moment in the show was when they all played the instrumental “The Call of Ktulu” all four members, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich, and Robert Trujillo got close on the stage and played the song. Their instrumentals are absolutely beautiful.
After a few more songs, the show ended and James Hetfield thanked the audience and said “Phoenix! Thank you!! Sorry about the delay, and thank you so so much for coming back, we definitely didn’t expect the delay, but you all still showed up with your amazing energy and me, and the others are thankful for that!” Then they all said thank you, wished everyone a goodnight and left the stage. But it was the audience that left with amazing memories from a fantastic live show.
